Huntsville, TX (May 14, 2013) – Nolan Ryan, hall of fame pitcher and part owner of Nolan Ryan’s All Natural Beef, will kick off the 10th annual Texas Steak Cookoff on Saturday, May 18, in historic downtown Hico, Texas.
According to Ryan, “We’re proud to be associated with an event that is known for serving up the ‘Best Steak in Texas’. The Texas State Cookoff draws amateur grillers from all over the U.S. to compete for the “Best Steak in Texas” title and a $2,500 cash prize. This year’s contest will begin with the Backyard Chef competition, where contestants compete to prepare and grill Texas’ Best 12oz rib eye.
This is the first year that Kroger will co-sponsor the event with Nolan Ryan’s All Natural Beef, who has sponsored the Texas Steak Cookoff for the past three years as well as provide the steaks for the competition, ensuring there is consistency in the beef for all contestants before the grilling begins. As part of the Texas Beef line sold exclusively at Kroger, the choice rib-eyes are 100% free of artificial ingredients and preservatives, and the cattle are raised and processed in the state of Texas.

The Texas Steak Cookoff is an annual initiative introduced by the Hico Economic Development Corporation and the City of Hico to promote the economic growth and tourism. The Hico EDC is a nonprofit organization. The Cookoff is held every year on the third Saturday in May.
